SHOW NOTES:
Episode 000 - Introduction to Artfully Told
Lindsey Dinneen: Hello and welcome to Artfully Told, where we share true stories about meaningful encounters with art.
[00:00:06] Krista: "I think artists help people have different perspectives on every aspect of life."
[00:00:12] Roman: "All I can do is put my heart into the world."
[00:00:15] Elizabeth: "It doesn't have to be perfect the first time. It doesn't have to be perfect ever, really. I mean, as long as you, you're enjoying doing it and you're trying your best, that can be good enough."
[00:00:23] Elna: "Art is something that you can experience with your senses and that you just experience as so beautiful. "
[00:00:32] Lindsey Dinneen: Hello and welcome to the very first episode of Artfully Told. I am so excited about this launch, and so thrilled that you are here with me.
[00:00:43] Thank you so much for joining. My name is Lindsey Dinneen and I am excited to share these stories with you. We have brought together so many different people, artists of all kinds, creatives of all kinds to just share their stories about their inspiration or what prompted them to start in the first place, or funny things that happened along the way-- just sharing life together. And I think it's absolutely incredible, and I am so excited to share with you the mission statement that we have. And so at Artfully Told, we know that art is a vital aspect of everyone's lives. Everyone has a story about how art has impacted them, whether they are professional artists, amateur dabblers, or simply anyone who has seen a movie, read a book or attended a live performance. Whether inspiring or humorous, sad or sweet, these stories have the power to connect us and to transform the way we think about and experience art. We strive to make our podcast accessible and welcoming to people of all backgrounds and involvement with art. Together, we can create a community of people who value art in all of its forms and enjoy having their days be Artfully Told.
[00:02:04] And on that note, if you have a story to share, I would love to hear it. So I do have a whole wonderful set of episodes ready and waiting to launch for you. But in the meantime, I'm still recording and I will be recording, recording, recording as we go along. So if you have a story to share or you know somebody who has a story to share it and you think, "Hey, that person should definitely tell their story," please feel free to connect them to me. I will be posting all the different ways that you can connect with the community of Artfully Told listeners and with me personally in the comments and show notes. But for right now, always know that Facebook is a great option to connect. It's facebook.com/artfullytold. Or you can always email me at elevateartskc@gmail.com and that's E L E V A T E artskc@gmail.com.
[00:03:10] I'd also love and welcome your feedback, so if there's something that particularly stands out to you that either good or bad or indifferent, please don't hesitate to reach out and let me know. I value having your feedback. I value knowing what connects with you, what doesn't connect with you, even ways that we can improve and make this better. Because ultimately this is for you as a listener, and I want it to be the best experience that it can be for you.
[00:03:40] So just so you know, as far as our frequency and format is going this is an interview based podcast. And so every single time, you'll hear me chatting with somebody who is either an artist or a non-artist--it doesn't matter, but who has a story to share about art. So you'll always hear some stories from them directly, but then you'll also have a chance to hear them answer some questions about art. I ask the same three questions every single time to all of my guests, and it's really interesting because they have such dynamic answers to what I'm asking, and it's subjective, just like art is, and so it's cool to hear how different perspectives are.
[00:04:26] So in the future, we'll have an episode every week, maybe eventually more than one per week. But to start, we'll be releasing new episodes every Monday. And to start at this point as you might have already noticed, we have this episode, this intro episode, and then we also have two more. So you can kind of get an idea of what the podcast is all about, and feel free to subscribe. Please do subscribe, and if it inspires you, please share with a friend or two. That would be absolutely amazing, and I cannot wait to see you in this community. Like the Facebook page, and we'll start gathering this community together, because I think there's a lot of us who really do care about sharing art and sharing our stories about art. And I just can't wait to interact with all of you.
[00:05:18] So like I said before, my name's Lindsey. I am an artist; I grew up dancing. My mom introduced me to ballet when I was very young by watching "The Nutcracker," and I fell in love with it for the costumes, naturally. I was enrolled in a summer camp shortly thereafter, and I basically never stopped dancing. I went to college and earned my degree in dance, and then right after that started dancing professionally, and four years into that professional career, I decided to launch my own company. That is VidaDance, and I am the artistic director of that company. We perform all over the Kansas City area and have traveled to St. Louis to perform as well.
[00:06:02] And then just some fun things I do on the side--every once in a while I play piano, although,it's been awhile and I'm not that good. And then I also liked to sing, but don't have any formal training in it. But I do enjoy expressing myself through singing. I also write, and I cook, and I've recently been dabbling in painting, which has been a lot of fun. Never thought it was something I could do. And I'm not sure it is still, but I absolutely love it, and so I do spend some time doing that every once in a while.
[00:06:37] And this podcast is really my passion project. I am so excited about it because I know that it's going to sound cliche, but I truly believe that art is for everyone and that art should be accessible to everyone. And I never want somebody to walk away from a situation and think, "I did not get that. At all. Why are we even here at this art museum?" Or, "I don't understand this show." As much as I possibly can, my goal with this podcast is to demystify art, right? To connect us together with stories that help us maybe understand where the artist is coming from or what inspired them or. Maybe it's just to help us realize that we're all humans and what seems glamorous to one person is actually a lot of work to that other person, you know?
[00:07:30] And just to be able to share life together in that way, and help us realize and recognize the value and the impact and the joy that arts can bring and do bring to so many lives. And, really, it doesn't matter whether or not you feel that you're an artist per se, or you would take on that title-- you are creative inherently, and you are also somebody who consumes art, whether you really feel like you do or not.
[00:08:00] I mean, like I mentioned earlier in the mission statement, reading a book, watching a movie, if you've done any of those things. You're participating in art. And that's kind of my whole point, is to try to make sure that all of us realize and recognize not only the value of art, but how it can change us, how it can move us, how it can elevate us, right?
[00:08:22] And I just am very passionate about this and so excited to share these stories with you. So, I don't want to take up any more of your time cause I'd really love for you to dive into some of the episodes and just enjoy this podcast. So again, feel free to reach out to me anytime you with you have questions. If you have a story to share, if you have feedback, I would love, love to hear from you. And until that time, I hope your days will be Artfully Told.
